How Each Adjustment Is Built

1Trailer mass. Roughly 1.05 L/100km added per 500kg of loaded trailer, since rolling resistance and drag both scale with weight.
2Grade. Roughly 0.16 L/100km per 100m of net climb, easing back on a net descent.
3Speed. Modeled as a curve, not a flat percentage, consumption rises with roughly the square of speed above a 60mph or 97km/h reference point, and eases slightly below it.
4Wind and tires. A steady headwind adds roughly 7 percent, a tailwind saves roughly 5, and winter or soft tires each add a few percent more rolling resistance.

Why does the calculator ask what my time is worth?
