KTM Towing Calculator: Your Bike Doesn't Tow, Your Truck Does
Here's the honest bit nobody selling a "KTM towing capacity chart" wants to admit: no motorcycle, KTM included, carries a factory trailer tow rating, because nobody straps a trailer to a dirt bike. What actually needs checking is whether your car, SUV or truck can safely haul the trailer carrying your KTM. This calculator uses real KTM model weights and runs the same rigorous math on your tow vehicle instead.

The question everyone asks wrong, and the one that actually matters
People type "KTM towing capacity" expecting a spec sheet number, but motorcycles were never engineered to pull anything, so that number simply doesn't exist in any factory manual. What genuinely matters is whether your truck, SUV or car can carry the combined weight of the trailer, your KTM, your gear, and everyone riding along. I built this calculator to answer the question people actually need answered, not the one they typed.
Riders after a figure specific to their own bike and their own tow vehicle should pick the exact model above and enter the tow vehicle towing capacity by VIN in the identify panel, since curb weight and payload vary enormously between a small hatchback and a full-size truck. The motocross and enduro range is genuinely light, the adventure range carries real touring weight, and the street range sits in between, but every single KTM needs a trailer and a capable tow vehicle behind it, none of them tow anything themselves.
Genuinely light
Roughly 100 to 140 kg dry, the lightest category to haul.
Real touring weight
Up to around 254 kg dry on the largest 1290 Super Adventure.
In between
Roughly 150 to 190 kg dry depending on displacement.
No fake tow ratings
No KTM model gets an invented towing figure here, ever.
Real KTM dry weights by model
Every model below loads its published dry weight straight into the calculator with a single click, used purely as the load your tow vehicle needs to carry.

How the figures and the score are worked out
SAE J2807
Your tow vehicle's own tow rating, whichever car, SUV or truck you use, follows J2807 test methodology from its own manufacturer.
VIN structure (ISO 3779)
Decoding your tow vehicle's VIN pulls model year and plant details to help you confirm its exact certified figures.
Payload checked first
Tow ball weight and cabin cargo are weighed against payload before tow rating, since payload is where a loaded family SUV hauling a bike trailer often runs short first.
The Tow Confidence Index
All six checks (payload, GVWR, GCWR, tow rating, tow ball weight, hitch class) are weighted and rolled into one 0 to 100 score, so you get a single honest read instead of six numbers to reconcile yourself.

Does KTM rate its motorcycles for towing a trailer?
No. KTM motorcycles carry no manufacturer trailer tow rating, since there is no SAE J2807 certification process for a motorcycle pulling a trailer.
How much does a KTM weigh for trailer loading purposes?
It varies by category, from roughly 100 kg dry for a motocross bike to around 254 kg dry for the largest adventure model.
What actually needs a towing capacity when hauling a KTM?
The car, SUV or truck doing the hauling. Its own tow rating, GVWR and payload determine whether it can safely pull the loaded trailer.
How much does a loaded motorcycle trailer typically weigh?
A single-bike open trailer typically weighs 180 to 320 kg empty, commonly reaching 400 to 700 kg once the bike, fuel, tie-downs and gear are loaded.
