Tesla Towing Capacity Calculator: The Cybertruck Rewrites the Rulebook
Nobody outside the truck world expected an electric pickup to hit 11,000 lb, and yet the Cybertruck did exactly that, beating plenty of established gas trucks in the process. The Model X and Model Y carry their own genuine figures too, while the Model S and Model 3 were simply built for range and speed rather than trailers. This calculator gives every current Tesla the honest number it actually earned.

An electric truck that beat the establishment at its own game
Instant torque and a genuinely stiff stainless structure let the Cybertruck certify a figure that would have sounded implausible for an EV a few years ago. What I wanted this calculator to add is the part that rarely gets equal billing: towing near that limit costs a serious chunk of range, and planning a route means treating charging stops as part of the towing math, not an afterthought.
Owners after a figure specific to their own Tesla rather than a brochure average should use the Tesla towing capacity by VIN feature above, since motor configuration genuinely shifts the certified number across the Cybertruck and Model X lineups. The Cybertruck leads the range with a genuinely class-leading figure on Cyberbeast and Foundation trims, the Model X follows with a strong three-row electric SUV number, the Model Y carries a modest but real figure ahead of most compact crossovers, and the Model S and Model 3 simply were not built with a tow hitch in mind, which this calculator states plainly.
Class-leading, genuinely so
Up to 11,000 lb on Cyberbeast and Foundation, a figure that beats most gas trucks.
Falcon doors, real muscle
Up to 5,000 lb, a strong figure for a three-row electric SUV.
Compact but capable
Up to 3,500 lb, notably higher than most rivals in its class.
No guessed numbers
Model S and Model 3 get a clear not-rated notice, not a fabricated towing figure.

How the figures are worked out
SAE J2807
Ratings for the Cybertruck, Model X and Model Y with the factory tow package follow J2807 test methodology, the same standard applied to gas trucks.
VIN structure (ISO 3779)
The 17-character VIN carries WMI, VDS and VIS segments encoding model, motor configuration and equipment used to pin down your real figure.
Payload checked first
Tongue weight and cargo are weighed against payload before tow rating, since the large battery pack already eats into payload more than a comparable gas vehicle.
FMVSS 110
GVWR and payload definitions plus the certification label rules that apply across the current lineup.
SAE J684
Hitch class matched to trailer weight, Class IV for most setups scaling to Class V on a fully equipped Cyberbeast.
